d4: Take your share of the center and open a road for the dark-squared bishop. Every line in this repertoire grows out of this one move.
c4: The Queen’s Gambit: offer the c-pawn to lure their center pawn away. If they take, you rule the middle — and you always get the pawn back.
Nf3: Before collecting the pawn, take the e5-square away and get a piece out. That pawn on c4 is not going anywhere.
